We're good kitty sisters

Raven and Sammi sleeping

Despite last week's midnight mishap when Sammi decided she didn't want me sleeping with the family on the bed, we're getting along like good kitty sisters. Every afternoon the sun shines in our bedroom. Sammi sleeps on the corner of the bed and doesn't care about being in the sun. I lay on the edge in the sunshine so I can soak up all the warmth. We're content being next to each other, and occasionally we even touch. This picture makes it look like we're two kitties with one head! Two kitties one head?

Sammi breaks the rules. Naughty kitty!

SammiI was a very naughty girl last night and got in trouble with both Mom and Dad. We were all in bed with Raven on top of the blanket cuddled behind mom's knees and me under the covers by mom's elbow. It was very cozy until Raven twitched. I didn't like that so I got out from under the covers and started stalking her. Mom sat up and tried to keep me away from Raven, but I went all the way to the end of the bed, over to Dad's side, then went up to Raven and bit her on the back of the neck. Raven didn't know what hit her. Well, she knew it was me, but she didn't see it coming.

Mom and Dad were very upset with me. Mom grabbed me and tried to put me back on her side of the bed, but I would have none of it and leaped away from her. In the process, I put a long scratch on her arm. I was intent on getting Raven again so I tried to get back on the bed. But by now Dad had woken up and he grabbed me and put me on the floor. Dad said some naughty words during this process. Raven had run out of the room so mom went to check on her.

Raven wasn't hurt, just scared. So Mom took Raven and snuggled with her in the guest bed. I got jealous and tried to get in bed with Mom, but she refused to make any room for me. I was being shunned for my naughtiness.  I managed to get on the bed, then jump up to a perch. I slept there for a while, then sometime in the early morning I found a space on the bed and slept next to Mom. Raven had already left, but Mom still refused to snuggle me. She said something about me being naughty and not getting any snuggles because of my bad behavior.

It's dinner time the next day and things are pretty much back to normal. There's no evidence that I was mean to Raven while Mom and Dad were at work. But Mom's still not very happy with me because one of the few rules rule in our house is that kitties are not allowed to fight. We don't have to love each other, but we can't fight. I broke that rule and my punishment is that Mom isn't doting on me. I think she wants me to understand that she's top kitty and makes the rules and I have to follow them.

Raven's 7th birthday

For my 7th birthday I decided Sammi should be the first to suffer wearing the silly hat. Sammi wearing silly hatBut then it was my turn, and I wondered why I'm putting up with this torment. It lasted only long enough for me to get my picture taken and shake that stupid thing off my head. I even put a gentle little bitey on mom as she unhooked me from that contraption. But then it was time for my new toy. I got a halloween mouse! It has a long tail and wears a black hat. It's fun to play with.

Raven playing with toy mouseI even pretended eating it. See the tail hanging out of my mouth? Well, that's just pretend, I'm sitting on the moussie and the tail just happens to be under my chin. I bet I tricked you!
Raven eating her mouseI had lots of fun playing with my mouse. I tossed it all around the room and pounced on it.

Helping cats who are waiting to be adopted

In the spirit of Thankful Thursday we're taking some supplies to a local cat rescue. We were well cared for while we were in a shelter, so we thought it would be nice to give some beds and toys to cats who are waiting for their forever home. It's always nice to get a gentle brushing to help stay looking your best so we took some brushes too. At the shelter we saw a cat who had only one eye. Mom asked that he be given one of the spongy footballs to play with. We like spongy balls and thought he might like one too. The ladies volunteering at the shelter said they'd be sure to give him one. We hope lots of kitties enjoy the snuggly beds and have fun playing with the toys.

Sammi joins the shaved tummy club

Sammi's shaved tummyToday I became a member of the shaved tummy club. The last time we had a kitty join this club was in 2008 when Felix became a member. I've had issues with food upsetting my system for a very long time, and the last couple weeks I've been having trouble in the potty department. So mom called my vet and asked if it was time for me to have an ultrasound so the vet could look at my insides. He said yes, that would be a good idea, so off the vet I went.

They shaved my tummy and put goopy gel on my skin so the vet could use a strange wand-thing that he rubbed all around on my tummy to get a good look at my insides. It was a strange feeling but it didn't hurt at all.

Luckily, everything looked good! The vet thinks my itchy skin and potty problems are due to having a sensitive system and being allergic to something. The big mystery is what exactly I'm allergic to. It will take time to figure that out, but everyone is glad that my insides look healthy.

It feels strange having a shaved tummy, but mom turned on the heater so I can sit on the floor vent and keep my bare tummy warm. And after this picture, she gave me a big kiss on my naked belly!

Please don't steal my dust bunnies

Raven covered in cobwebA few weeks ago I got my official middle name "Charlotte" for my uncanny ability to find dust bunnies in the house and cob webs in the garage. Mom tries to keep the house free of dust bunnies but I can always find something in a corner she can't reach. And I can always find a web in the garage. That's where I was when I came in looking like this (click my photo to make it bigger).

Mom & Dad laugh at me when I have dust bunnies sticking to my whiskers, but they wish I wouldn't eat them. They said I have enough problems with hairballs that I don't need to add dust bunnies to my tummy. So Mom bought something called a Webster. It's a long contraption with a big brush on the end that she's going to use to get into all the corners throughout the house. How am I supposed to find dust bunnies now? I guess I'll have to settle for cob webs in the garage.

Mom let me play with the webster and its box. Maybe she won't get around to using it and I'll get to keep it as a new toy.

Postcards from 1949 - Spay & Neuter

I went to a book show a few weeks ago and ran across these two postcards from 1949. I don't think spay & neuter campaigns were popular back then, but this could be a creative way to spread the message. If you're going to be out "wrestling" you must be spayed or neutered first!

My First Cat Show

I've had cats for over 20 years, but I've never been to a cat show. There was a show in town and a unique cat was going to be there, so I decided to go. There were many beautiful cats and kittens, mostly Ragdoll, Persian, Bengals, and a few other breeds.  Here are some of the cats I saw.

And then there was the special cat that I was interested in seeing. This is Stewie. He is a Maine Coon who holds the Guiness record for being the world's longest cat.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Stewie - The world's longest cat"]Stewie worlds longest cat[/caption]

You can's see how long Stewie is, but Stewie has a site with lots of photos and there's a video on YouTube with his owner.  He's a Very Long kitty!

All the cats were gorgeous. Many were snoozing in their cages, some were alert, and some were getting ready for the show ring. It was interesting to walk around and see all the cats, talk to some of the owners, and wish them luck. This was a small show so there weren't many different breeds of cats. I think I'd enjoy going to a bigger show to see some of the more uncommon breeds.
